History 115 Guidelines for NACLA assignment #2

For this second installment of your three-part NACLA Report on the Americas reviews, and for this installment, you are to read a current news article about the Caribbean or Central America from the website for the North American Congress of Latin America (NACLA) and submit a short review.  .  Late reviews will be accepted for one week, and a one-grade deduction will be assessed.

Please submit your review through Canvas in either of the following formats: doc, docx or PDF (if you are using Google Docs or Apple Pages to compose your review, please be sure to convert your paper to docx or PDF before submitting it). Late papers will be accepted for each submission,  but only for one week after the assigned due dates and will be assessed a full grade deduction.  Please use both a title page and a works cited page (neither of these pages count toward your 3-4 pages of text). The three NACLA reports that you submit will count as a combined 30% toward your final grade.  In your works cited page, compose your article entry in a format like this:

Jennifer A. Cárcamo, “Poets and Prophets of Resistance: Intellectuals and the Origins of El Salvador’s Civil War,” NACLA Report on the Americas website (August 6, 2020).

In terms of the content of each report, I am looking for two main points of discussion.  First, you should devote the first half of the report to a summary of the main points in the article that you selected.  To help you to address this issue, consider some of these questions: What is the main issue being discussed? (i.e. immigration, elections, education, environment, women’s issues, crime, etc.)  Who are the main personalities mentioned in the article? (i.e. El Salvador president Nayib Bukele, President Biden, Secretary of State Blinken, former President Trump, etc.)  How does the issue affect the people of the country mentioned in the article?  Does the issue have any connection with United States interests?  What do you think could be the best solution to resolve this problem?

And for the second point of discussion, please analyze the article that you selected and present your point of view on the story.  For example, how do you feel about the story?  How did this article contribute to your understanding about modern Latin America?  And what do you think about the author’s perspective on the article?  How does this topic relate to contemporary political, economic or cultural themes in the United States today?

Here is a list of articles from the NACLA website pertaining to regions for the November 14 due date. Just pick any one article from this list for your November 14 review.  You will repeat the same process for your review on a South American nation, which is due on November 26.  These articles range in date from February 2019 to November 2022.  For this list, I’m going in alphabetical order by nation, starting with the Caribbean region first, and then Central America:

Stock Analysis And Portfolio Development

ooxWord://word/media/image1.jpeg ooxWord://word/media/image2.jpegFIN 340 Milestone Two Guidelines and Rubric

Overview: In the first milestone, you prepared a client analysis. In this milestone, you will create the stock analysis and portfolio development sections of your final project.

First, you must understand what you are investing in. You have to know the underlying characteristics of the investment. What type of asset is it? What type ofsecurity? How is it priced? What are the expected cash flows? Who are the typical investors and what are their typical motives? If you do not understand theanswers to those questions, then the initial expectations you develop about the value and risk of the asset will be fundamentally flawed. This sets you up formissteps that can lead to underperforming your investment objectives.

Second, you must be able to estimate the value of the asset. Valuation is about assessing the estimated cash flows of the asset. This is a key component ofdiscerning absolute return potential and the differences between competing assets. It has a significant influence on the third step in the process as well.

The third step is developing a thesis about an asset’s expected return and the associated risk. This is accomplished by assessing your valuation estimates againstthe current market price and any developing economic or market dynamics that may impact your expected valuation or its pricing. The market is constantlychanging, and these expectations need to be monitored on a regular basis to ensure they continue to correspond to the objectives you are trying to achieve.

Finally, you must understand how the assets in a portfolio interact with one another. It is likely that you will not have just one investment, so any additionalassets will impact the overall performance of the portfolio. You want to formulate a plan to add assets that, when combined together, will have the potential tomeet your objectives. Putting all of these steps together into a consistent, thorough process will position you to better meet the investment objectives laid outat the beginning.

Prompt: This milestone involves creating a draft of the stock analysis and portfolio development sections of the final project. Use the provided spreadsheet to

calculate your portfolio’s standard deviation and the Final Project Scenarios document.

Specifically, the following critical elements must be addressed:

II. Stock Analysis: In this section, you will select five stocks from the provided list and determine their values by applying an appropriate valuation model from the following options: price to multiple model (earning or sales), dividend valuation model, or free cash flow to equity valuation model. A. Determine the value of each stock by using an appropriate model based on the characteristics provided for each stock; use each model at least once.

B. Provide a rationale for the stock valuation method you chose for each stock. Cite specific information to support your decisions. C. Using the calculated valuation, the current market price, and historical performance, determine the expected return for each stock.

ooxWord://word/media/image4.jpeg III. Portfolio Development: In this section, you will develop a portfolio for a client (Ezra or Jacob and Rachel) based on the client’s risk tolerance, return

objectives, and liquidity objectives. You will select appropriate assets from the provided list.

A. For the client, develop a portfolio from the list of assets provided that is informed by your analysis of the client’s objectives and (if applicable)

the stock valuation you determined.

B. Calculate the expected portfolio return using the CAPM (beta) model. Based on the risk tolerance and return objective of the client you didn’t choose for this assignment, would you design an investment portfolio that has a higher or lower expected portfolio return, and why? C. Calculate the expected portfolio standard deviation. Based on the risk tolerance and return objective of the client that you didn’t choose for this assignment, would you design an investment portfolio that has a higher or lower expected standard deviation, and why?

Rubric

Guidelines for Submission: Your client analysis should be a 3- to 5-page Microsoft Word document, double spaced, with 12-pt. Times New Roman font, one-inch margins, and citations cited in APA format. Note that your submission may be longer than 6 pages as work must be shown for all calculations. You may use and upload an Excel workbook to show your calculations. In your written paper, if you are referring to data that is found within an uploaded Excel workbook, be sure to include a citation—for example, “the portfolio’s expected return is 7.2% (E64, Sheet1, WB1),” where E64 is the cell that the calculation took place in, Sheet1 isthe tab, and WB1 is designating the name of your file. This ensures that your instructor can quickly and accurately check data entry, formula use, and financialcalculations.

Assessing And Treating Patients With Impulsivity, Compulsivity, And Addiction

Impulsivity, compulsivity, and addiction are challenging disorders for patients across the life span. Impulsivity is the inclination to act upon sudden urges or desires without considering potential consequences; patients often describe impulsivity as living in the present moment without regard to the future (MentalHelp.net, n.d.). Thus, these disorders often manifest as negative behaviors, resulting in adverse outcomes for patients. For example, compulsivity represents a behavior that an individual feels driven to perform to relieve anxiety (MentalHelp.net, n.d.). The presence of these behaviors often results in addiction, which represents the process of the transition from impulsive to compulsive behavior.

In your role as the psychiatric nurse practitioner (PNP), you have the opportunity to help patients address underlying causes of the disorders and overcome these behaviors. For this Assignment, as you examine the client case study in this week’s Learning Resources, consider how you might assess and treat clients presenting with impulsivity, compulsivity, and addiction.

Competency

Apply the foundations of pediatric nursing when caring for clients with health alterations.

Scenario

You are working in a large urban pediatric clinic after-hours.

A mother brings her 6-month-old daughter, Vivi Mitchell, to the clinic for rhinorrhea, congestion, fever, and cough. Upon assessment, you identify the child has wheezing upon auscultation and on inspection, you identify retractions.

  • The child is in less than 10th percentile of weight and has a cardiac history of Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA).
  • Born at 36 weeks gestation.
  • Mother states this child doesn’t go to day care but her two other children ages 2 and 3 do attend daycare.
  • T- 102.1 HR 140 RR 40 BP 83/58 Pulse ox 96%
  • A swab for respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is positive.

Doctor orders – Nasal bulb suction and saline drops PRN, Tylenol 15mg/kg Q4 PRN for fever, Albuterol nebulizer in office and push po fluids as tolerated.

After the albuterol neb treatment, respirations are 36 and oxygen saturation is 100%. Wheezing has diminished. Mom is an ER nurse and the doctor feels comfortable that she has a nebulizer at home and can return to pediatric afterhours or ER if needed.

Client is discharged with these orders:

  • methylprednisolone 0.4 mg/kg oral BID for 3
  • Albuterol Q4 hours for 24 hours, then Q 6 hours for 24 hours, and Q6 as needed.
  • Call if needed prior to the Q4 dose.
  • Manage fever with Tylenol and continue hydration and nasal bulb suction Q6 while awake.
  • Return for re-evaluation in 3 days

Instructions

In a two to three-page APA formatted paper, provide reponses for these questions and requests for information:

Criteria:

  1. Describe the pathophysiology of bronchiolitis and identify the most common organism causing this infection. What laboratory testing can confirm your suspicion?
  2. Describe the pathophysiology of PDA and why the history of PDA is significant in this scenario.
  3. What risk factors place Vivi Mitchell at a greater risk for the development of bronchiolitis?
  4. What are the characteristic signs/symptoms of bronchiolitis?
  5. Vivi Mitchell been prescribed the following medications; acetaminophen, albuterol nebulizer, corticosteroids. Provide the rationale for why each medication has been included as part of her medical management and explain any potential contraindications related to these medications.
  6. You are designing Vivi Mitchell’s plan of care. Identify two priority nursing diagnoses to include in your plan. For each nursing diagnosis, identify two SMART goals, and two interventions for each goal.
  7. What short and long-term possible complications should the nurse anticipate?
  8. What client education is appropriate for Vivi Mitchell as she is discharged from the after-care clinic?

How Is America Addressing The COVID-19?

The U.S. is in the midst of one of the world’s most challenging pandemics. Few have been unaffected by this virus, professionally, socially, and economically. We have lost more Americans to this virus than some of our wars, even when added together. We are in an economic recession, facing a depression. Warding off mental health issues has been a challenge.

What has been our response to this crisis? Have we met the challenge the way any modern, experienced public health system should? How are other nations doing? Have we done as we have so many times before with H1N1, HIV, and Ebola to mitigate spread and damage by this Covid-19 threat?

Assess our situation. Review our systems, organizations, and ourselves. How did generations before you manage the war years? WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, the Mideast? How was earlier pandemics managed? The Great Depression? Some of these events went on for years. This virus has been here for only months and some seem unable to even wear a mask or avoid large gatherings. What if we had that attitude during WWII when rationing was in effect? What is our future? What have we done right? Where could we have done more or better? Where are our successes? Failures? What can we and should we be doing now?  Earn points by posting or commenting on others at least three times, initiating your own post at least once.

Concepts and Applications of Information Technology (IFSM201)

Concepts and Applications of Information Technology (IFSM201)
Class Project

Purpose of this Assignment

The Class Project is the most significant assignment in this course, Concepts and Applications of
Information Technology. As such, it accounts for 40% of the course points. This assignment is
comprised of two deliverables; a SWOT Analysis and a Presentation. The SWOT Analysis is due
in Week 4 (worth 15% of course grade), and the Presentation is due in Week 8 (worth 25% of
course grade).
This assignment gives you the opportunity to demonstrate your ability to research, evaluate,
and describe business strategy focused on information technology tools and services. This
assignment specifically addresses the following course outcomes:
• Identify the basic components of the information system: hardware, software, data,
processes, and people, and how these components are used to support strategic
decision making.
• Apply information technology tools for research, data gathering and information
analysis, problem-solving, decision-making, and communicating information that aligns
with business needs and objectives.
Start Here
The Class Project for this course focuses on the evaluation of a business or organization and
how they might strengthen their operations through technology, including their information
systems. There are two parts to the Class Project; the SWOT Analysis and the Presentation. You
will use the same business/organization for both parts; however, the grade received on the
SWOT Analysis will not affect the grade for the Presentation (they are separate assignments).
Step 1: Choose a Business or Organization
To begin, choose a business or organization that you would like to evaluate – it can be where
you work, a school (UMGC), a place of worship, government entity (e.g., DMV, Secretary of
State, courthouse, etc.), or any other type of organization. Since the focus of the analysis will
involve information technology, the best type of organization to choose is one where you can
envision technology playing a key role in improving products, processes, or services.
*From this point on, the instructions focus on the first deliverable, the SWOT Analysis*
Step 2: The SWOT Analysis (due week 4)
Now that you have chosen a business or organization for your Class Project, it is time to
complete the first deliverable – the SWOT analysis. A SWOT analysis is a framework for
identifying and analyzing an organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats —
SWOT stands for: Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat. Commonly used by businesses,
this tool focuses on factors that are important to strategic decision making. These factors
include both internal and external influences on the viability of the organization.
For more explanations on a SWOT Analysis, go to:
• YouTube “How to Perform a SWOT Analysis”

• Forbes: What Is A SWOT Analysis?
• SWOT Analysis: Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats
• Refer to the SWOT examples on Heineken and Walt Disney World (below)

You will use a SWOT analysis to help analyze the current health of your organization, and (in
week 8), you will identify possible ways the information technology could be used to make it
stronger.
The SWOT analysis offers a visual way of identifying both the positive attributes of an
organization, and areas that need to be recognized and addressed. Thinking of the organization
you chose, start by filling out a simple table listing its internal strengths and weaknesses, and
external opportunities and threats:
SWOT Table:
Task: List 2-3 Strengths and 2-3 Weaknesses
Strengths and weaknesses are associated with internal resources and experiences and include:
• Characteristics of the business that give it an advantage over others in the industry.
• Positive tangible and intangible attributes, internal to an organization.
▪ Human resources – staff, volunteers, board members, target population
▪ Physical resources – location, building, equipment
▪ Financial – products/services, other sources of income
▪ Activities and processes – programs and processes, online presence
▪ Past experiences – building blocks for learning and success, your reputation in
the community
Task: List 2-3 Opportunities and 2-3 Threats
Opportunities and threats are factors outside of business operations that can contribute to
either the make the organization stronger or be troublesome. The ability of a business to
identify, control, and adapt to these external factors can make it more profitable:
▪ Market expansion
▪ Complacent/aggressive competition
▪ Changing customer needs and tastes
▪ Economic swings
▪ Changing government deregulations
Step 3: Write the SWOT Analysis
Now that you have identified the organization you will analyze and completed a SWOT table
listing the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for the organization, it is time to
write the analysis paper that will be submitted to your instructor/classroom.
The paper should include all of the following:
1. Title page – the title of paper, company/organization name, your name, course, and
date of submission.
2. Purpose – briefly describe what the SWOT methodology is and the
business/organization you are focusing on.
3. SWOT Analysis – include a SWOT Analysis table and describe each quadrant (strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities, threats) for your organization. Each quadrant should be
clearly identified in the analysis and the description should include the importance of
the attributes to the organization.
4. Conclusion – synthesize the findings from the SWOT analysis.
5. References – cite at least two resources with APA formatted citation and reference.
Format
• Double spaced. Any 11- or 12-point font.
• Paper should be approximately 3-4 pages in length, excluding title page and references.
• Cite at least two resources with APA formatted citation and reference. Incorporate at
least two resources correctly; one reference should be from the course materials and
one reference should be external. An external resource is a resource other than those
provided in the class or textbook. Incorporate properly formatted APA citations in the
text of your document for each reference used. Then, place an APA style reference
page at the end of your document.
• Consider your audience – you are writing in the role of a business analyst and your
audience is upper management of the organization.
• Compare your work to the Grading Rubric below to be sure you have met content and
quality criteria.
• Submit your paper as a Word or PDF document to the appropriate folder under
Activities and Assessments > Assignments in the classroom.
